As REACT COO Nicola works to ensure that we have the strategic and operational capacity to allow the science to run smoothly while maximising the opportunities to reach our goals and deliver impact on behalf of our funders, partners and publics.
In REACT, with three universities and additional partners, finding ways to coordinate our activities and work effectively to maximise our science is an exciting challenge. Nicola brings to REACT experience from roles in universities and funder organisations where she developed inclusive research environments and managed funding portfolios to deliver greater impact from the investment in research.
Nicola began her research career working to understand genetic pathways that underpin the development of complex organisms. It was an exciting time with much new data becoming available from the efforts to sequences whole genomes of model organisms and humans. In REACT we’re working on the next phase of this journey. By building on what we have learned over many decades of research we’re working to develop new medicines that repair and regenerate the heart. It’s great to be part of this journey and for the many people touched by heart disease the development of these new medicines can’t come soon enough.
