REACT brings together researchers in a collaborative environment. Alongside our scientific aims, our ambition is to create a more inclusive and supportive research culture, in line with our co-developed ways of working. We place a strong emphasis on community-building, training, career development, and mentorship.

We recognise that excellent researchers do not all follow the same trajectory. We therefore welcome applications from candidates who have followed less conventional career paths, or who are still developing aspects of their profile, and who can demonstrate strong potential and relevant experience.

We particularly encourage applications from groups currently underrepresented in cardiovascular research, including women, racially minoritised, and disabled researchers.

Flexible working arrangements are supported, and reasonable adjustments can be made throughout the recruitment process and in post to ensure an inclusive working environment.

Postdoctoral Research Scientist (University of Oxford)

Salary: £39,424 - £42,794 per annum

Contract: 2 year fixed term, full-time

Application deadline: Friday 29 May 2026, 12 noon

Professor Nicola Smart and Dr Jacinta Kalisch-Smith are recruiting a postdoc to investigate the potential of a class of matricellular proteins to promote coronary vessel growth, cardiomyocyte proliferation and moderation of fibrosis in the context of cardiac repair and regeneration.

The laboratories of Professor Nicola Smart and Dr Jacinta Kalisch-Smith use predominantly cell-based systems (primary, cell lines, iPSC) to understand mechanisms of cardiac development that can be recapitulated to drive neovascularisation and cardiomyocyte proliferation, for repair and regeneration of the injured adult heart. The postholder will use techniques including embryonic dissection, adult injury models, cell and vascular organoid culture, functional assays, immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy.

Transition Research Fellow x2 (University of Oxford)

Location: Oxford, UK (onsite)

Salary: £49,119 - £55,031 per annum

Contract: 2.5 year fixed term, full-time

Application deadline: Monday 15 June 2026, 12 noon

We are recruiting two senior postdoctoral researchers for transition fellowship awards at the Institute of Developmental and Regenerative Medicine (IDRM), hosted by Professor Paul Riley.

The transition fellowship programme aims to support and develop outstanding postdoctoral researchers, enabling them to secure competitive external funding and to foster the next generation of leaders in advanced cardiac therapies aligned with the strategic mission of REACT and the IDRM.

The successful applicants will receive a £150,000 transitional award over two and a half years in addition to salary. This funding may be used flexibly, for example to support a research assistant (where justified), consumables, and travel for conferences or collaborative placements.

The fellowship is intended to facilitate researchers in transitioning to independence through externally funded, highly competitive fellowship or career development awards to enable them to progress to group leader status.

Full details and application form are available on the University of Oxford jobs listing.
