Ermes is a cardiologist and biotechnologist with a special interest in interventional cardiology and advanced cardiac imaging.
Ermes has a PhD in Translational Medicine and experience in early clinical trial design and delivery, having previously led a pilot trial in interventional cardiology. His clinical background is particularly relevant to the development of clinically-scalable delivery strategies for advanced cardiac therapies, the assessment of treatment response using cardiac MRI, and bridging the gap between preclinical research and early-phase human evaluation.
Ermes has always been drawn to research that can have the greatest impact on people’s lives. This led him to cardiology, given that cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide. He became particularly interested in cardiac regeneration, as the ability to repair the heart after injury could prevent the development of a large proportion of heart failure cases.
The aspect of REACT that interests him most is that it brings together three top-tier research centres, alongside a wide network of scientists and leading experts, to collaborate towards shared goals in advancing cardiac therapies. This collective effort, uniting diverse expertise and perspectives, is essential to accelerating meaningful progress in the field.
