Andy is BHF Professor of Translational Cardiovascular Sciences and Gustav Born Chair of Vascular Biology at the University of Edinburgh. He has a long standing interest in the understanding of vascular pathophysiology.
Andy's laboratory was set up with the mission to create impact-driven, open research that bridges cardiovascular innovation with advanced therapies to improve patient care. This involves both peripheral and cardiac vascular injury and viral vectors for gene therapy and design of RNA therapeutics.
His group have deep experience in the development and use of viral vectors for vascular gene therapy. Andy is passionate about enabling the design, development and testing of novel advanced therapies in REACT. This is an important task as the field needs to couple novel approaches to delivery to the heart with effective RNA and gene therapies to improve outcomes.
Approaches in advanced therapies benefit from an interdisciplinary environment where all aspects have the necessary input and expertise, through discovery to clinical testing and healthcare costs. Creating this environment and nurturing it is key to the success of REACT and Andy is thrilled to be part of this journey from its inception.
